Bio
Although originally an oil painter, Deanne Palmer has been honing her skills in painting and sculpting using encaustic medium for the past several years. She makes most of her own encaustic medium and finds the technical versatility and translucent qualities of this beeswax-based material compliments her layered and textural style. The eco-friendly ingredients resonate with her concern for the care and preservation of our natural world.
Through encountering aquatic landscapes in their different states, Deanne’s work examines the diversity of sensations experienced as well as conveying the essence of the scene. Bathed in light and colour, they invite deeper inspection beyond conspicuous beauty, delving into elements that may impact upon and connect others to the local and global ecological challenges we face.
Deanne has worked in the visual arts industry since 1980, while practicing as an artist. Her current practice spans printmaking, painting and sculpture with a focus on exploring and developing sculptural techniques to push and enhance the qualities of encaustic medium. She teaches and mentors from her Sydney studio and exhibits in group and solo shows throughout Australia and overseas.
